Let’s chat about Promotional Strategy!
Specifically PINTEREST and all good things that come to those that PIN. ha!

I recently learned the importance and effectiveness of engaging in quality Collaboration Boards. So, let’s take a look at the nuts and bolts and see how this can benefit you!

What are COLLABORATION BOARDS?

Collaboration Boards are:
1. Boards you create and invite your fellow pinners to engage, participate, pin and pin some more on a regular basis.
2. Boards a fellow pinner has created and invited you to participate!
TIP: You BOTH have to be following each other for this to work. 

Ok, so now that we have that all sorted out, how are they beneficial in terms of marketing and promoting?
How are they used? 


These boards help drive traffic to your ETSY shop, web site, author book page, blog, etc. Traffic you might not otherwise have!

For example, recently my friend and author Karen Emma Hall, who heads up Kid Literature, created a “Fairy Tales Imagery” art board. She invited me to pin to this board. Very cool. So now when I pin to her lovely board, which is all about fairies and fairy art, my pins are seen by HER followers! I now have the chance for more re-pins, more followers, more potential clients! 
I created a board “Author Friends and Blogs” and invited Karen to participate. Now in turn, she is happily pinning to my board and reaching all my audience ~ thus increasing her views and potential followers as well. 

yes, by golly! it’s a WIN – WIN! 

Here are some TIPS to utilize the boards to your advantage!
1. Create / follow / engage and collaborate on boards of pinners who have equal or more followers (ie. more traffic for you 🙂
2. Find fellow active pinners who fall into the same genre / type of business but are obviously NOT your direct competitors.
3. Go for professionals, relatable business pinners but also do not ignore a pinner, for example, who is a mom, teacher, grandmother, nurse, mailman, etc but has a HUGE following of YOUR potential clients and is an ACTIVE PINNER.. Are these your customers?  Your audience?  While they might not be craftsmen / art sellers.. .they are definitely and actively pinning to YOUR audience / clients / customers. Don’t underestimate that Pinterest caters to a huge following of mothers and women if this is part of your audience. 
4. Find people who pin CONSISTENTLY quality pins and WILL NOT SPAM YOUR BOARD! For example, let’s say you create a board and invite me to it… it’s all about Fairies … and I start pinning pictures of cows, dairy farms and chickens.. over and over.. nothing to do with your board. ugh. SPAMMERS!  UNINVITE them ~ they are saturating your board with crazy content pins and this could cost you a loss in followers.


LAST BUT NOT LEAST!

ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOUR ORIGINAL CONTENT PINS:   
1. Link back to YOUR SHOP / WEB SITE / BLOG … DIRECTLY IN ONE CLICK! (when you load up your pin, pinterest has an EDIT that you can then attach your link) 
2. CAREFULLY WRITE KEYWORDS FOR YOUR BOARD NAMES AND INTO EACH ORIGINAL CONTENT DESCRIPTION … so important for people finding you and SEO!
Have your board and description names contain KEYWORDS that will direct TRAFFIC to your business. This can be in a conversation tone but put them in there. Trust me, it’s sad to see a gorgeous pin with ZERO links and a description that just says “pretty ring.” Don’t let this be you! 
If you are an artist, author, etc. Place a © in the description with your name and watermark ALL your original content you are posting. 

Collaboration boards are also utilized for collecting ideas and presentations to clients. On Pinterest you have online the ability to quickly and easily share ideas, colors, themes, rough sketches to your client all in ONE board. This board can also be a SECRET BOARD for PRIVACY! 


whew! So maybe you knew all of this already?  I did not and I hope you do not mind me sharing. I got all excited and am starting to put into action on my boards this month. 🙂 we shall see!
